We're doing a COPA implementation on ECC 6.0 with traditional database, and anticipate that the final rollout will be complete only in two to three years. We will be using the SAP HANA accelarators for reposting on COPA out of BI.
However, in anticipation of moving to S4 HANA within the next 5 years I am considering doing the COPA implementation on Accounting based, rather than Costing Based.
I have raised the question here earlier this week, and Ajay and another commenter said that there shouldn't be too much of a difference in the database size. I also had a very short discussion with SAP representatives assisting us with our sizing, who said that the sizing tools do not distinguish between Accounting based vs Costing based. So I assume that also means that the size difference is not large.
However I have one team member that is dead set against Account-based, feeling that it will cause massive (10x) increase in database size. His argument rests on the fact that we will now need multiple entries in COEP to record a billing document.
Another argument is that with Costing based COPA, we can activate FI summary psting for the SD posting, and therefor have one summarised entry in FI, compared to say 60 COPA docs.
I would appreciate it if you could weigh in with your opinion around this.
Going to Acc based from the beginning, will save us redoing all the report development, as well as a bespoke allocations engine that is required to be developed.
